Easement Stewardship

The Carbon Conservation Trust, as a part of its mission to promote conservation, utilizes strategic approaches to conservation easements and land management to steward the preservation of important habitats, open spaces, and natural areas.

The Carbon Conservation Trust works with landowners, institutions, and corporations to identify the biologically important areas on their properties and develop reasonable and effective conservation easements is a critical step in promoting our mission of conservation.

A conservation easement is a legal agreement that limits the use of the land in order to protect its conservation values. As an affiliate of the Land Trust Alliance, we utilize tools and resources for monitoring and enforcement that are standard across the land trust industry, while tailoring our approach to individual landowner needs.

With approximately 50,000 acres of land protected with conservation easements, The Carbon Conservation Trust:

Reduces air and water pollution

Prevents soil erosion and improve soil quality

Helps to sequester greenhouse gases

Manages and protect watersheds and wetlands

Conserves natural forests and habitat

Preserves wildlife habitats, endangered species, & promotes biodiversity
